asia

where to begin

Asia is vast, so we usually start by asking what draws you there: culture, food, wildlife, wellness or simply a beautiful beach.

Japan is endlessly fascinating, with Kyoto’s temples, extraordinary food and superb skiing in winter. India and Sri Lanka are rich in history and colour, while Bhutan and Nepal are for mountains and monasteries.

Southeast Asia combines well in a single trip. Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos give you history and river life, and Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines finish things off with some of the best beaches and island resorts anywhere.

Distances are long, so we plan internal flights with care and build in a few quiet days at the end, so you come home rested.

good to know

questions we’re often asked

Anything else you’d like to know? Simply ask us.

Where should we go for a first trip to Asia?

Japan, Thailand or Sri Lanka are all easy and rewarding. Japan is safe, efficient and endlessly interesting, Thailand balances culture with beaches, and Sri Lanka packs a great deal into a small island.

When is the best time to visit?

It varies a great deal. Much of Southeast Asia is best from November to April, Japan in spring and autumn, and India from October to March. If your dates are set, we’ll tell you where will be at its best.

Can we combine culture with a beach?

Yes, and it’s often the nicest way to travel. Rajasthan with Kerala, Sri Lanka with the Maldives, or northern Thailand with a few days on the islands all work well.

Is Asia good for families?

Very. Japan, Thailand and Singapore are particularly easy with children, with short transfers, great food and plenty to keep everyone interested. We’ll build in pools and downtime between the busier days.

Do we need visas?

Several countries require a visa or an electronic travel authorisation, and the rules change regularly. We’ll let you know what’s needed when we plan your trip, and the FCDO website has the latest guidance.
