europe

europe, done well

Europe is close and familiar, which is exactly why it’s worth planning well. The right hotel, a good guide and a table booked in the right place make all the difference.

Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Greece are the favourites for summer: coastlines, islands, lakes and long lunches. In winter we send people to the Alps, to Lapland for the northern lights, and to Europe’s great cities for art, music and Christmas markets.

Further north and east, Scandinavia, Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro and Albania offer something a little different, often with fewer crowds and wonderful food.

We also arrange private tours, villas for larger groups and journeys by train, which is often the most enjoyable way to travel between cities.

good to know

questions we’re often asked

Anything else you’d like to know? Simply ask us.

Can you help with a short break as well as a longer trip?

Of course. A long weekend in Paris, Rome or Vienna benefits from the same care as a fortnight in Italy: the right hotel, a private guide for the morning and restaurant bookings that are hard to come by.

When is the best time to visit the Mediterranean?

May, June and September are ideal, warm and sunny without the crowds and heat of high summer. July and August are lovely on the islands and in the mountains.

Do you plan ski holidays?

Yes, in the Alps and beyond, with chalets or ski-in, ski-out hotels, private instructors and passes arranged in advance.

Can we travel between countries by train?

Often it’s the best way. We can plan routes such as Paris to the Riviera, the Swiss mountain railways or the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, with transfers at each end.

Do you arrange villas and yachts?

Yes. For families and groups, a villa in Tuscany, Provence or the Greek islands, or a crewed yacht along the Croatian coast, can be the most relaxed way to travel.
