finding your island

The Caribbean is often spoken of as one place, but the islands could hardly be more different. The trick is matching the island to the holiday you have in mind.

For beaches above all else, Anguilla, Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas have some of the finest sand anywhere. St Lucia, Dominica and Grenada are greener and more dramatic, with rainforest walks, waterfalls and volcanic peaks.

Barbados and Antigua suit those who like a little life, with good restaurants, sailing and cricket. The British Virgin Islands are made for chartering a yacht, and Jamaica and the Dominican Republic offer the most variety if you’d like to explore.

Several islands have direct flights from the UK, and the smaller ones are a short hop onwards. Some pair nicely too: Anguilla with St Barths, or St Lucia with a few days in the Grenadines.

good to know

questions we’re often asked

Anything else you’d like to know? Simply ask us.

When is the best time to visit the Caribbean?

December to April is the dry season and the most popular time to go, and May and June are often lovely and quieter. Hurricane season runs from June to November, although Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire sit outside the main belt and are good all year.

Which islands are best for families?

Turks and Caicos, Antigua, Barbados and Anguilla, with calm, shallow water and hotels that do children’s clubs properly. We’ll suggest suites and villas with room for everyone.

Can we visit more than one island?

Yes. Some pairings are easy, such as Anguilla with St Barths, St Lucia with the Grenadines, or the Virgin Islands by yacht. Others take longer than you’d expect, so we’ll plan the route to keep flights short.

Do we need to fly via the US?

Not usually. There are direct flights from the UK to Barbados, Antigua, St Lucia, Jamaica and the Bahamas, and the smaller islands are a short onward flight or boat ride away.

Is a villa or a hotel better?

It depends on the group. Villas give you space and privacy, often with a chef and staff, while hotels suit couples and anyone who likes a spa and restaurants on hand. Many of the best resorts offer both.
