The Best Resort in The Maldives

Ah The Maldives. We’ve only been there… 11 times! So you know you can trust us when thinking Maldives for your next vacation. An island nation of 26 atolls stretching across the Indian Ocean, the country is made up of 1192 islands with only 0.33% of it being dry land.

Having an overwhelming percentage of ocean within their nation, you can only imagine what life under the sea is like in this luxury destination. The Maldives is a world-renowned prime diving location and for those of you who aren’t looking to gain your diving license, snorkelling is also a fantastic option. Some may argue that it is even better than diving in The Maldives. Home to around 5% of the total reef population on the planet, in addition to thousands of species of fish joined by majestic manta rays and whale sharks, you definitely don’t want to forget your underwater camera this time around. Trust us.

Only 200 of the country’s islands are inhabited and at the time of writing, there are 132 resorts across these paradise. So why do we chose W Maldives as our number 1 destination? Read on to find out…

1. House Reef
In our opinion, W Maldives has by far the best house reef in The Maldives. Just pick up your snorkel equipment and flippers from Down Under (the resorts Dive Centre) and snorkel right from your back door. Expect an abundance of fish, thousands of corals and a few resident turtles. You might bump into a few of the friendlier reef sharks along the way.

2. Service
Expect personalised service at every step. All the staff will greet you personally by name and if you’re lucky you might even have your room number changed to your surname. Be sure to connect with Chunky – the W Insider tasked with quite possibly the best job in the world. Book with us and we will be sure to introduce you!

3. Best Beach Villas in The Maldives
Although many of you will be eyeing up the water villas, don’t overlook the beach villas! Having a 2 story villa with a pool and private entrance to the beach where you will have your own chaise loungers really gives you a more varied experience than the water villas (but the water villas are pretty incredible too!)

4. Breakfast Buffet fit for a King (& Queen)
Expect the freshest fruits, a selection of bakery items and a choice between indian, oriental and western breakfast styles. Fancy a mimosa or bloody mary? And there are A La Carte options also! Top tip; ask the chef to prepare some freshly cut papaya with a side of lime. To die for!

5. 24/7 Fitness Suite
Top of the range sports equipment overlooking the Indian Ocean. What more can you ask for? Oh, a personal trainer you say? On hand! Also available are daily classes, some complimentary and some at an additional fee. You will receive a ‘What’s On’ activity sheet on a daily basis in your room. Be sure to check it out!

6. Dive Centre – tried and tested
If you’re thinking about getting your PADI Open Water Licence, looking to advance your skills under the water or perhaps just after a try dive. This Dive Centre is the only place you should do it! Their team are some of the best in the world and will ensure you are fully equipped for an experience down under.

7. Away SPA
Sit back, relax and close your eyes… except don’t. You might just miss the opportunity to see some dolphins playing across from the reef. Did someone say luxury pedicure?!

8. Watersports at WAVE
From glass bottom kayaks and seabobs to windsurfing lessons and paddle boarding. Try it all. If there’s a group of you try the inflatables for a thrill-seeking experience on the water.

9. Sip & Fish
For some of the best sunsets in The Maldives, head to SIP. The Islands cocktail bar, playing tunes from the resident DJ for the duration of the sunset. Shisha anyone? For a real treat, head to FISH after sunset. Here, the kitchen will prepare some of the freshest fish you will ever experience. Be sure to get a seat by the edge so you can watch the sharks pass by underneath you. #sushiforlife

10. Help-yourself Ice Cream!
The Resort has stations located around the island and on across the water villas stocked full with beach towels, ice machines and most importantly fridges and freezers where you can help yourself to refreshments and ice cream throughout the day. Go on, treat yourself…you’re on holiday!
